Summer's first kiss on Matai's soft dimpled skin
In the playground, where Mummy squeezes his fat thighs,
And he finds leaves and sand to chew, concentratedly persistent.
Later, that concentration moves to
The discovery of Splashing
Where he gazes with happiness at the water that jumps
On the tap of his hands in the bath.

And after exploring the grass on a lunchtime picnic
Falls asleep in Aunty Julia's arms.
