A little bit miserable

Apart from a few minutes here and there, where
The toys and the festive backyard tempt him away from Mummy's arms,
Matai spends most of his last day of 2010 miserable,
Craving the comfort of cuddles and milk and not much more.

For Matai's first Christmas
He is squirmy all day, to go on the stairs,
Until he falls asleep to Aunty Michelle's patient rocking.
He loves practicing standing up by himself.

A two-time masterful escape up the whole staircase
Only thwarted by concerned passers-by.

Matai's favourite part of today
Is not the beautiful Christmas presents he receives from Steve and Lucy,
But opening and closing every door he can find...
And sitting on Stevee's lap at the piano,
While Steve forgets his Rachmaninov.

Matai loves his Christmas present from his Port Macquarie family...

While Miro is getting his hair cut, Matai stands by the chair, crying.
And everybody says "Isn't he cute!
He's crying because he's jealous! He wants his hair cut too!"
After ten minutes of that, Daddy suddenly realises
That Matai's hand is stuck in the chair.
No wonder Matai is trying so hard to talk at the moment!

Matai has been sleeping little of late;
Skipping afternoon naps, and slumbering
Only beside Mummy, in the evening.
It is with great surprise, then, that he falls asleep in Nanna's arms this afternoon.
So peacefully that he misses the Christmas presents,
And nearly the lunch as well!

And spends most of the class chasing balls
And Bandoo chasing him!
