Today was Matai's special day
Where he got to go somewhere of his choosing:
Animals? Or fish? Tai adamantly said Fish.
He loved the little fish ("baby fish") best;
And got chatty with a great suctioned octopus;
Carrying his beloved Transformer everywhere;
Running from one room to the next.

On exploring the front garden after dropping Miro at preschool,
Matai smells one of Nanny's beautiful roses, and on removing his little nose,
The petals tumble to the ground.
"Oh no," says Matai, his face all screwed up in irritation.
"Now we'll have to buy another one!"
Later on in the afternoon,
Tai surprises everyone by being really good at catching a ball
As he plays with Uncle Daney, Papa, Miro and Mummy
In the hazy setting dayscape.
